The Opening Ceremony and inaugural walkathon was held on Saturday May 9. The opening ceremony marked the start of the 34th Navasartian Games. Homenetmen 34th Navasartian Organizing Committee Announces Plans for a Unique Opening Ceremony, Walkathon and Festival
The 34th Navasartian organizing committee, led by long time member, Y Mher Tavidian and a team of seasoned Homenetmen members are hard at work planning and organizing the 2009 Navasartian Games and Festival. The Regional Executive Committee Representative is Y Vartkes Shekherdemian.
This year's theme is "A Family Tradition". The official opening ceremony, a mini festival and the First Annual Navasartian Walkathon along with athletic competition on Saturday, May 9, 2009 will mark the start of this year's games. The Regional Marching Band and the Los Angeles Chapter Scouts will participate in the opening ceremony. Navasartian is an Olympic-style event organized by the Homenetmen, Western USA. Homenetmen Western U.S. Regional chapters will compete in athletic competition for Homenetmen Gold. The winning athletes and teams receive trophies and medals during the closing ceremonies which takes place during the 4th of July weekend. This year's games are expected to draw thousands of participants and tens of thousands of spectators.
The games include athletic competition in the following sports: Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Track and Field, Volleyball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Chess.
The Navasartian Walkathon will start at Griffith Park and end at the Rose & Alex Pilibos Armenian School located at 1615 N. Alexandria Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027 where the official opening ceremony and mini festival will take place.

8:00 AM
Participants should arrive at Rose & Alex Pilibos Armenian School. Participants will be shuttled to Griffith Park, the starting location of the walkathon.
9:00 AM
Walkathon Starts
10:00 AM
Official Opening Ceremony and the lighting of the torch will take place after the walkathon at the Rose & Alex Pilibos Armenian School followed by a mini festival and athletic competition.
