Homenetmen Holds Successful Kick-Off for Navasartian Victory Banquet
With the Navasartian 5-day festival less than one week away and plans underway for the approaching Homenetmen Victory Banquet on Sunday, July 1, 2012, a successful kick-off reception for the banquet was held the evening of Thursday, June 14th at Homenetmen’s Kevork Andonian Hall in Eagle Rock, Calif. Among Homenetmen members and supporters present at the event, guests included Rev. Fr. Vazken Atmajian of the St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church, Consul General Grigor Hovhannissian, Homenetmen Central Executive member Hagop Tufenkjian, benefactor Alice Andonian, as well as Honorary Presidents and Exemplary Homenetmen Members from years past.
Along with Haytayan, committee member Jasik Jarahian embarked on selling tickets for the Victory Banquet and more than 40 tables were secured for the event.
In a surprise gesture, guests joined in celebrating Honorary President Gagik Gevorkian’s birthday, which coincided with the kick-off date. Jarahian’s birthday was also celebrated as the same birth date is shared.

The official program concluded with Honorary President Gevorkian delivering a speech. Although not a Homenetmen member himself, Gevorkian expressed the familial ties that he feels with the organization. He commended the organization’s philosophy and commitment to linking youth with sports and exercise, and conveyed his conviction that Homenetmen represents a powerful structure, which continues to grow since its establishment over 90 years ago. In a touching sentiment, Gevorkian assured that he would continue to support the advancement of Homenetmen in his native Russia.

Filled with the Navasartian spirit, guests mingled and enjoyed good company while looking forward to upcoming events.
